The result after so many years gives the impression that the hand is squeezing the tree. Italian artist Giuseppe Penone made a cast of his own hand and lower arm and attached it to a young tree at the Nasher Sculpture Center, Dallas, in 1968. The tree has in fact grown around the sculpture to produce the effect of the fingers squeezing and slipping from the surface of the bark.
