It was back in 2014. Couple Chanel Cartell and Stevo Dirnberger were advertising executives in South Africa. They both had high-paying jobs. Back then, they made a life-changing decision to leave their jobs behind and travel the world.
As days turned into months, they have been enjoying their holiday as they both counted the distance they have traveled, sometimes showing up with the numbers on a board of how far they’ve gone. They also created an Instagram account and named it How Far From Home.
Amidst the breathtaking photographs and places that they’ve been to, Chanel recently opened up that the life that they are actually living is far from glamorous.
“You see, to come from the luxuries we left behind in Johannesburg, to the brutal truth of volunteer work, we are now on the opposite end of the scale. We’re toilet cleaners, dog poop scoopers, grocery store merchandisers, and rock shovelers,” Cartell revealed in a recent interview.
A lot of people might envy their carefree lives and how they travel to one country to the next, but behind the scenes is the brutal reality every person must face: coming up with sufficient funds to travel the world.
Do you think the volunteer work that they did was worth it?
