Believe It or Not, This Italian Decided to Hold A Wedding Without A Groom

“I firmly believe that each of us must first of all love ourselves. You can have a fairytale even without the prince.”

This was the words of 40-year old Italian vlogger and fitness trainer Laura Mesi who married herself in a small, intimate ceremony that was attended by 70 guests. The ceremony was complete with bridesmaids, a three-layered cake, and a stunning white dress.

The idea started 2 years ago when a 12-year relationship with an ex ended. She made a vow to herself that by the time she reaches 40, she’s going to marry her own self, and her happiness does not depend on a man.

She spent a total of 10,000 euros for holding the entire ceremony and became the first-ever Italian woman to have a solo ceremony. The event was attended by her closest friends and family members, and her cake had a figurine of a bride on top kissing her photoshopped self as the words “Sposa single” (single bride) were etched upon it.

Marrying one own’s self technically has no legal weight, as this act is simply a declaration and an expression of self-love.

According to Mesi, she is still open to the thought of someone to marry in the future. Meanwhile, she had her own honeymoon in Egypt.
