What if your favorite beach suddenly disappears out of nowhere, only to reappear 12 years later?
This is exactly what happened in an Irish beach on the island of Achill.
The white sands of this pristine beach were washed away by a freak storm and 12 years later, it’s restored to its original glory by another storm that passed the area.
In fact, there is a local folklore that exists behind it.
“There is local folklore that stretches back hundreds of years that says this beach comes back every seven years then disappears again. It was last seen in 2005 and it stayed for a few months at that time before it was washed away again,” Seán Molloy, of Achill Tourism, said.
The previous storm has mostly left the beach rocks and boulders. But this summer, storm Brian came and filled the beach again with thick layers of sand.
Of course, everyone in Achill is happy they got their beach back again.
“Even though I’ve been here all my life, and I couldn’t get over how beautiful it was. It’s absolutely stunning, it’s a new favorite spot for me now. I don’t know how long it will be there, but I encourage anyone who is around to go and see it while it’s there,” he says.
