A 20-Mile Walk Resulted With A New Job Plus A Barely-Driven 2014 Ford Escape
Walter Carr, a Birmingham student, just found out that his car broke before the start of his first interview with Belhops, but Walter was unstoppable and he managed to arrive at his earliest possible.
Walter walked, for 20 miles, from his house in Homewood to Pelham, Alabama until he reached Belhops.
“This was the first job in a long time to give me an opportunity to get hired,” Walter said in an interview. “I wanted to show them I got the dedication. I said I’m going to get to this job one way or another.”
Walter just recently joined Belhops moving company where his job is to assist people in moving their houses. His first ever clients were Jenny Lamey and her husband Chris, whose home was some 20 miles away from Walter’s.
Walter, a Carver High School graduate and U.S. Marine hopeful, started his long journey of 20 miles around midnight on Friday, journeyed to reach Hoover by 2 a.m., then to Pelham at 4 a.m.
In Pelham, he was spotted by 4 police officers who also learned about his incredible 20-mile journey, taking him to breakfast and later during the day, took him to buy some takeout for his lunch.
After learning of Walter’s 20-mile adventure, Jenny Lamey, setup a GoFundMe page to help Walter do more amazing things with his life.
An emotional Jenny Lamey hugged Walter and told him: “You’ve changed all of our lives Walter. You have no idea how many lives you’ve changed and inspired.” She added, “You’re a very special young man and you’re going to do great things. You already are.”
Incidentally, word about Walter’s passion for work, reached the 32-year old Harvard MBA graduate and CEO of Belhops moving company, CEO Luke Marklin, decided to give Walter a head-start by a gift of barely-driven 2014 Ford Escape. CEO Luke Marklin drove from Tennessee under a pretense of having a coffee with Walter to personally congratulate him for his passion for work.
“I am honestly blown away by him,” the CEO said. “Everything he did that day is exactly who we are – heart and grit. So far, he’s batting 1,000.”
Walter still managed to ask his new boss when CEO Luke handed him the keys, “Seriously?”
