See How This Last McDonald’s Meal in Iceland Became Immortal

Due to an economic meltdown, Iceland said goodbye to McDonald’s for good in 2009. But wait- that does not mean it completely disappeared off the map.

During McDonald’s last day at that time, people from all over the country flocked the doors of the famous fast food chain. So did Hjörtur Smárason- but he had no intention of eating the last meal that was ever going to produced by McDonald’s in Ireland.

Instead, he intended to keep his cheeseburger and fries as a souvenir. He left it in his garage and completely forgot about it.

Several years after, he discovered the meal again, and to his utter amazement, the meal was still intact! Exactly like he ordered it almost three years ago!

Freaked out, he decided to donate it to the National Museum of Iceland and has been sitting there for about three years.

Today, the ‘immortal meal’ is on display in a Bus Hotel Reykjavik and now became a famous tourist attraction for guests.

The hostel staff even had a timer and a webcam on standby to let the world see how long is the famous meal holding up.
