About to demolish an old house, several workers accidentally found an old safe in the basement. Knowing that it might hold something valuable, they informed the previous homeowners who never thought a safe even existed.
Since the house was passed from one generation to another, the family was unsure who exactly owns the safe. But their safest guess is their eccentric grandfather who loves to collect odd things here and there.
Jacob’s story, the current owner of the safe, quickly became viral on Reddit. He said he and the workers had a hard time taking the old safe out from the basement. They tried to lift it up, but it was too heavy. Then, they even used a ramp but it still wouldn’t budge.
Not giving up, they wrapped the safe in a tow strap, then hired a skid loader to lift it up. It was then that the safe budged and they were finally able to bring it out of the house.
But they faced another problem. They had to figure out how to open the lock.
Luckily, his dad found the code in the manufacturer’s instructions.
“The lock design was unlike any I had seen before in that it had 4 entries. You had to spin to the first number clockwise, then had to rotate the dial 3 times counterclockwise to the second number, then 2 times clockwise again to the 3rd number, and finally 1 time counterclockwise to the final number as per the manufacturer’s instructions. Thank goodness my grandpa had that sheet because I would never have figured that out if he had just had the combination numbers written down.”
Inside, they found shelves and envelopes. They would also find were two stock certificates worth 30 shares for Disney Co.!
However, what shocked them the most was when they took the certificates to a financial advisor to see if it was still valid, it was. To their utter amazement, both certificates were worth about $50,000!
Wow!
