Ah, handwashing.
Growing up, our parents never failed to remind us the importance of having clean hands, especially when eating. We see signs posted everywhere in public toilets.
Why is it so important?
Recently, a health occupation teacher Donna Gill Allen did a little experiment in a high school in North Carolina. She did a rather brilliant (yet gross) experiment showing what happens to your food if you touch it with dirty hands.
She presented her class at Cape Fear High School three slices of bread placed in separate plastic bags. One was placed using gloves, the other in newly washed hands, and the last passed on by every student in the room (technically making it dirty). Days after the experiment was conducted, the results were remarkable. It stunned Miss Allen’s students and colleagues.
See how this simple albeit powerful picture will change your perspective of hand-washing completely. This viral bread experiment shows how germs are potent and how they easily spread.
